New World Screwworm Infested Zone Established in Zavala and Uvalde Counties

Effective June 3, 2026, the Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) established New World Screwworm (NWS) Infested Zone 01 following the detection of NWS in Zavala County. The designated zone includes portions of Zavala and Uvalde Counties.

NOTICE: A quarantine is currently in place for Infested Zone 01. Under the June 3, 2026 Executive Director Order, all warm-blooded animals within the zone may not be moved outside of the designated area without prior authorization from TAHC.

Animals approved for movement will generally be required to undergo inspection, receive any required treatment, and be issued a movement permit or certificate by a TAHC representative. Additional guidance regarding movement requirements will be provided as it becomes available.

It is important that all breeders, producers, and animal owners adhere to these requirements to help prevent the spread of New World Screwworm to other parts of Texas and the United States through the movement of infested animals.

EWA, along with its many partners, will continue to monitor this developing situation and provide members with important and relevant updates as they become available.
